Placenta Encapsulation FAQ
When do I need to contact you if I want to encapsulate my placenta?
We have have moms wait until they have went into labor to contact us. However, we prefer to have a couple weeks notice before your EDD so we can be awaiting your call. It is never too early to contact us!
What do I need to bring with me to the hospital?
You should bring a small cooler and (2) gallon freezer bags. Most of the time the hospital will put your placenta in a container that you can put on ice. In case they do not, you can double bag then put on ice until I arrive.
If I get an epidural can I still encapsulate?
Yes.
Will the hospital let me have my placenta?
Most of our local hospitals have no problem with you keeping your placenta. You will still want to let your OB/Midwife know ahead of time, though. This is the link to the DOH recent policy regarding placentas. http://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/resources/6750.pdf
How many capsules will my placenta make?
The average is 150. Smaller placentas make around 100 and some bigger ones have made over 200.
Where do you pick up?
I will pick up from the hospital or where ever you deliver. If you deliver at hospital you must have someone available to meet outside the hospital for pickup & drop off.
How soon after delivery will you arrive?
I try to get to the hospital as quickly as possible depending on my current schedule and the time of delivery. I usually pick up in the evenings. If you deliver in the middle of the night, I will pick up the next day.
When will you have my capsules back to me?
I have a 24-48 hour turn around.
What is the cost & what form of payment?
The fee is $250. This includes pickup & drop off if local, your capsules, and a keepsake of the umbilical cord. Form of payment accepted is cash or paypal. Half payment is due at pickup. Balance at drop off.
